Entering the Future of Learning: Solar Kind School  is like stepping foot into the beating heart of hope. The whole campus shines with the natural warmth of the sun, every detail fuelled by 100% renewable energy sources. Rooftops shining with rows of solar panels, small wind turbines popping up around the playground spinning effortlessly in the wind. All of the walkways are lined with solar panel LED lights to keep students safe as they walk home after evening activities. This school is a center for learning but is also a blueprint for a future marked by a green sustainability, equality, and kindness. A School Powered by Nature Solar Kind’s design is stunning green technology. The building has smart glass windows that respect your privacy but adjust automatically to help manage heat and light in the internal spaces, saving on energy use. W4: My Hero Fights Hunger--Miss Lani Fights Hunger with Every Lesson

Image
I n the small mountain village, nestled amongst misty hills and crooked paths, hunger doesn't always mean empty bellies. Here, children laugh and play, yet many are not getting the nutrition needed for their growing bodies. This is where Miss Lani comes in. Miss Lani, a quiet, but determined former doctor is truly an everyday hero.  When her work in the city was complete, Miss Lani returned to her childhood village only to discover that many of the students were suffering from hidden hunger a form of malnutrition in which foods fill stomachs, but do not contain the vitamins and minerals to sustain healthy growth. The issue was not about how much food was consumed, but rather what kind of food they were eating.  There were lots of starchy meals: rice, instant noodles, or fried snacks. Fruits and vegetables, protein and iron rich foods were seldom to be found in homes or lunch boxes. Miss Lani recognized a change had to happen. A Class Beyond Books Miss Lani held the title of th...

W3: "A Day Without Water" -The Day the Taps Went Dry

Image
Tuesday, July 13 At first, today was like any other day. I woke up at 6:45 a.m., still sleepy, still groggy, but ready to start my normal routine. I stumbled to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth.  But when I turned on the tap... Nothing. Not a drop. Initially I assumed it was just our house. Mama checked in the kitchen, shook her head, and said "No water anywhere." I did not see it as a big issue. Surely, the water would be back on soon. It wasn't. Once I got to school, however, the situation was worse. The bathrooms were locked! The canteen was not serving food because they could not cook or clean without water. And by 10 a.m., our headmistress made a loud announcement stating we had to go home early! Some kids cheered as they walked off with their families but as I looked over at the teachers, they looked worried and stressed. When I got home, Papa told us the whole town's water had been shut off! Something about a pipe exploding or contamination. I ...

W2:My Invention to Save the Earth – AquaNet Ocean Drones

Image
W2:My Invention to Save the Earth – Aqua Net Ocean Drones  The invention that I suggest is called Aqua Net, a fleet of smart, solar powered ocean drones that will locate and collect plastic waste from the oceans. Plastic pollution is being presented to the public in a variety of alarming ways, but likely, everyone is hearing about these considerable quantities of plastic in areas like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Aqua Net seeks to offer a tech-based, sustainable solution to counteract plastic pollution  to help protect marine life and help restore balance in marine ecosystems. The intent of Aqua Net is to clean the oceans before people even notice plastic waste has decomposed into microplastics. Each drone has solar panels so it can run with no fuel. They are designed to float on free floating on the surface of the water and utilize GPS and AI to travel map coordinates and stick to specific routing coordinates. While the drones travel through the ocean water, they scan the...

W1:The World I Want to Live In - No One Left Behind

Image
The World I Want to Live In - No One Left Behind   When I envision the world I want to be a part of, I have a simple phrase in mind  no one left behind. I want a world where everyone has the chance to be peace, regardless of race, gender, nationality, past/current situation, disability or level of wealth. A world where diversity is not just accepted but celebrated, defended and systematically built around.  An inclusive world would be one where kindness and respect is the norm. I can envision walking down the street and seeing people acknowledge each other with a warm smile, seeing trust and friendship over division and hate, and not judging people based on their clothing, their speech, or their beliefs. Our differences would be viewed as respective strengths and not treated as weaknesses. I envision a world where justice would be served by strong, transparent institutions governmental, educational and legal. Protecting vulnerable populations, while access to justice woul...
